3D printed fixtures account for less than 1% of all fixtures produced globally. Why is 3D printing trailing so far behind traditional manufacturing in fixturing and so many other applications? One of the reasons is that design automation has not kept pace with manufacturing automation. Recognizing this gap, additive manufacturing leader Stratasys and design workflow pioneer nTopology teamed up to start rapidly producing automated design tools to accelerate 3D printing adoption. Their vision: to make design for 3D printing as simple as 3D printing itself. In November they announced their first collaboration: the FDM Fixture Generator. Join David Busacker of Stratasys and John Graham from nTopology as they explore the foundations of their collaboration, the roadblocks they encountered while building the FDM Fixture Generator, and their visions for the future of additive manufacturing.
