Virtual Engineering Week is bringing a full week of best-in-class education to the global design, engineering, and manufacturing communities. Join us each morning to hear from medical device industry professionals during the Medtech Mornings series, and in the afternoons to learn from engineering and manufacturing experts in areas like 3D printing, smart manufacturing, packaging, materials and sustainability, and career development.
All times listed below are PST (Pacific Standard Time).
Christopher is Velentium’s Principal Security Architect, overseeing the company’s Cybersecurity division. He graduated from California State University Northridge with a B.S. in Computer Science. Since then, Christopher has worked for over 40 years developing medical devices and has recently co-authored the first and only book on medical device cybersecurity titled, "Medical Device Cybersecurity for Engineers and Manufacturers".
Christopher acknowledges that while “hacking” into systems and devices is a fun hobby due to the challenge, it is far more difficult to prevent an outside source from obtaining unapproved entry or information. This has led him to participate in regulatory and standard bodies to better define tools, techniques, and processes for the medical device industry to enable the creation of secure products. He has worked with several industry-leading device manufacturers, as well as the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), MITRE, Bluetooth special interest groups, and IEEE, in order to present, define, and codify techniques to control embedded cybersecurity.
Christopher describes himself as a prophet who evangelizes the benefits of a secure development lifecycle, not only to increase a device’s security, but also to ease the burden of the developer and ensure the high-quality outcome of the product itself.
