As an industry expert and independent consultant, Dayton provides strategic advice, market analysis, and technology scouting for corporate groups and startup clients alike. He maintains industry expertise in the areas of additive manufacturing, materials informatics, and advanced materials. As part of his industry coverage, Dayton speaks regularly at international conferences, and is a contributing author at 3D Printing Industry. To compliment his consulting services, he works as a Principal for NewCap Partners, a private investment banking firm that has a focus on financing and M&A in the advanced manufacturing and materials industries.

Prior to his work as a consultant and principal, Dayton led the Materials Design and Manufacturing coverage area at Lux Research, a strategic advisory and market research firm. He provided strategic advice and technical expertise on advanced materials, design, and manufacturing technologies to more than 100 Innovation 1000 clients. His role involved managing a compelling research agenda, scouting and interviewing startups, authoring company profiles and reports, as well as making introductions for clients to startups. Dayton began his career working with a venture-backed startup called Citrine Informatics, conducting user interviews to better understand the value proposition behind their machine learning materials data platform.

Dayton earned his M.S. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also graduated from the University of Connecticut as a University Scholar and Honors Scholar with his B.S. in Chemistry, and minors in Business and Materials Science & Engineering.
